THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE ANIME AND LIGHT NOVEL SERIES, "TRINITY BLOOD."
My friends and I enjoy having semi-intellectual discussions about character types, the psychology behind these characters' actions, and what makes them great or not so great. I've been on a Trinity Blood kick lately, thanks to my buddy and fellow fan girl, Mel. It has some awesome characters and an equally awesome plot.
But Mel and I have different opinions on the series' foremost antagonists: Dietrich von Lohengrin and Isaak Fernand von Kämpfer. I'm here to break down their characters and prove which of the two is a better villain. ─=≡Σ((( つ•̀ω•́)つ
First we'll have a look atPinocchio Dietrich von Lohengrin. He's a member of the notorious Order of Rosenkreuz, like Isaak, a whacked out band of terrorists led by Abel Nightroad's psychotic twin brother, Cain. In the anime and light novels, Dietrich befriends one of the main protagonists, a nun named Esther, and convinces her to murder several members of the local law enforcement. With his powers, he could easily dispatch an entire army. So, why did he let some naive girl handle the dirty work? (」゚ペ)」
Then there's his blunder involving the Ibelis...During this arc of the story, Dietrich bullies a fellow comrade named Radu Barvon into killing his childhood friend and taking out the Empress. Once more, he does nothing personally. His 'dolls' attack the Duchess of Moldova's chateau, too. He also passes on killing Esther himself a SECOND TIME.
Ah, then there's his triumphant bungle in Albion; he and his puppets invade the underground Ghetto and he manages to capture Esther a THIRD TIME. What does he do? He tells her how cute he thinks she is and then leaves...Was anyone else ridiculously happy when Cain killed him near the end of the anime? (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Lol. Then there's Mr. Happy. It goes without saying that Isaak initially gave me the creeps. He looks like a rapist and/or serial killer. But that doesn't mean that I don't respect his character. A villain is supposed to creep you out.
Why does Isaak scare the shit out of me? He isn't afraid to take care of business, and he does so happily. During his first appearance in the anime, he levels an entire city, kills off its entire human population, kills an AX agent, kills his own accomplice because he has no further use for him, and almost puts a Crusnik six feet under. He does all of this without the aid of any lackeys. ∑(;°Д°)
Then he invades Albion with a giant warship and starts blowing people to kingdom come. He even has plans to assassinate his great leader when the opportunity presents itself. He knows he can't defeat Cain if he's whole, so he's gonna kill him beforehand.
So, who do you think was the better villain? Pansy puppeteer boy and his fear of bloodying his own hands so he makes everyone else do his dirty work? No, sorry, Mel. Dietrich is a great character, but I don't see him as a great villain. He's more of a Pseudo Villain.
Let's just be thankful that Isaak isn't a living entity. :/
